Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to provide experience with the following:
- Planning and composing a memorable and informative business presentation
- Delivering an in-person presentation
- Creating professional and clear visual design
Scenario
As Covid-19 is transforming customers’ lives and needs, your team has been working hard these past few months developing a product or service unlike any other. You now need to inform other departments in your company about this promising product or service and its impact on the company. You have determined that an in-person meeting is the best way to discuss this new product or service with the company executives.
Your Task
Your assignment is to host a meeting in which you demonstrate the use, benefits, and impact of this up-and-coming product or service. You will deliver your presentation to your classmates and your professor, who will act as company executives. You are required to do the following:
- Research a new and promising product or service in which you are interested. Your classmates should not have heard about this product or company before they started their research for this project. Examples of new products include Instrument Bible, an app that helps students learn how to play any instrument, and FocusCalm, a device that helps improve focus and mental performance. You may present a finished product, an implemented service, or a prototype.
- Provide an overview of the product or service. Explain its use and benefits.
- Identify how this product or service will impact your company from a financial, marketing, management, logistics, or accounting perspective. This perspective should be closely related to your current major (or future major if you haven’t declared one yet). You may make up necessary, logical information.
- Support your presentation with PowerPoint slides. Design five or six slides (or nine or ten slides for pair presentations), including the title slide, agenda slide, and concluding slides. Your slides should include visuals and very little text. You will not earn good points if all your content slides have bullet points. This is meant to ensure you are the one presenting, not your technology.
- Submit your PowerPoint on Canvas before your scheduled presentation.
Your presentation must be between 3 and 4 minutes long (6-8 minutes for pair presentations). You will lose points if you speak less than 3 minutes or more than 4 minutes. In fact, I will ask you to stop after four minutes (8 minutes for pair presentations).
Watch a former BUSI 3660 student’s presentation. While her presentation would be too long to meet the requirements of this assignment, the student did an excellent job at catching the audience’ s interest, organizing her ideas, concluding with a memorable thought, and designing visually appealing slides.
Evaluate your presentation using the Presentation Checklist while you are preparing for this assignment.
Details
The presentations are scheduled Monday, October 18 through Monday, October 25. You will be able to sign up for a 4-minute meeting between Monday, October 11 and Friday, October 15. Failure to sign up for the meeting by Friday, October 15 or deliver your presentation at the scheduled time will result in a grade of zero.
Submit your PowerPoint on canvas before your scheduled presentations. Students who submit their PowerPoint after they presented will receive a grade of zero on the Slide Design criteria.
Arrive five minutes early on the day of the presentation to upload your presentation slides. Dress professionally.
Attendance is mandatory. Students who are absent on presentation days without official excused absences from UNT will have 10 points deducted from their presentation grades for each absence. Students who arrive late will have five points deducted from their presentation grade for each late arrival. This is to ensure that all students present in the same environment.
Students who present in pairs will need to speak between 6 and 8 minutes and prepare 9 or 10 slides. Each student should speak for about the same amount of time.
